Overview

Reimagined for 2022, Philly’s PHL Pride March & Festival is part of PHL Pride 50 — celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Pride Day in Philadelphia, which took place in 1972.

The event may look a little different than past Pride Month events in Philadelphia, as new organizers PHL Pride Collective place special emphasis on smaller, community-centered events at locations across the city from June 3-5, 2022 .

The weekend celebration culminates in a community march through Center City and a Pride festival in the Gayborhood on Sunday, June 5, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m.

2022 Highlights

PHL Pride March

In lieu of a large parade with floats and vehicles, a community march departs from Independence Mall at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, with three stops along the way to highlight diverse voices:

  • The first stop honors the Lenni Lenape people with a land acknowledgement
  • The second stop features speakers uplifting people of color and trans members of the community
  • The third stop celebrates and connects LGBTQ youth and elders at the former site of a mural depicting the late LGBTQ rights leader Gloria Casarez

The event is open invitation, and no registration is needed to participate in the march.

PHL Pride Festival

Immediately following the march, the PHL Pride Festival kicks off in the Gayborhood at noon on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

The reimagined celebration aims to uplift the most marginalized members of the LGBTQ community. Highlights of the festival include:

  • live performances on the Philadelphia Muses stage, featuring a diverse lineup of local performers
  • an expansive youth and family programming area, with safe and age-appropriate programming that celebrates all generations of Pride
  • vibrant and diverse food options, including a dedicated sober space and dry bar; and
  • a relaxation zone for attendees in need of an accessible, low-sensory environment in which to celebrate.
