Visit Philadelphia’s Diversity Fellowship Program

Overview

The mission of Visit Philadelphia is to build the region’s image, drive visitation and boost the economy. Our work is important and tourism is a serious business with a significant positive impact on jobs, the economy, and our region.

Visit Philadelphia’s Diversity Fellowship Program will create professional opportunities to increase the number of diverse people in tourism and marketing within the hospitality industry. People from diverse backgrounds will engage in a six month fellowship that provides opportunities to work in a hands-on setting promoting Philadelphia and the region’s vibrant culture. This strategic pilot program is designed to boost the number of underrepresented voices in the tourism and hospitality industry, and add to the economic lifeblood of the region.

We are looking for passionate future leaders with marketing and communications experience who bring a range of skills, life perspectives, positive energy, and diverse worldviews.

Besides an immersion into the core competencies and culture of Visit Philadelphia, fellows will have a 360-degree experience working with programming partners and agencies while creating a pipeline for future opportunities.

Responsibilities

Fellows will work on the diversity and innovation, marketing, and social media teams, while also helping to create pipelines between Visit Philadelphia and their respective academic institutions and communities. More importantly, fellowship participants would help to provide their input on ways Visit Philadelphia can engage with diverse communities.

• Fellows will engage with diverse stakeholders, including outreach to ethnic and language communities, to ensure Visit Philadelphia’s messaging is generationally relevant and culturally competent.
• Fellows will staff Visit Philadelphia events throughout the summer, helping Visit Philadelphia full-time staff prepare for, work during, and stay after programs.
• Fellows will provide departmental supervisors frequent updates on specific tasks assigned, and their input would be regularly solicited during department meetings.

Departments & Projects

Assignments differ from day to day and vary in each department. Fellows can expect to work with the following programs and departments: Love + Grit Podcast, Public Relations, Advertising, Events, Creative Services, Web and Tourism .

Skills

Visit Philadelphia is seeking a dynamic, fast-paced fellow who is creative and has excellent oral and written communication and time-management skills. The ideal fellow is a self starter, professional, enthusiastic and able to collaborate with internal teams as well as external partners, vendors and community leaders.

Requirements

College students majoring and/or focus in communications, hospitality, marketing are preferred; other majors and areas of interest will be considered. This is a paid position that requires a six-month commitment with a minimum of 16 hours a week.
