No stranger to “ bests ,” Philadelphia has a new feather to stick in its cap.
The city’s Guild House Hotel has been named one of the best new hotels in the world — yes, as in the entire globe — by Travel + Leisure .
The publication lauded the restored National Historic Landmark — which once housed a suffrage-era organization of freethinking women called the New Century Guild — for its impeccable details, “invisible” luxury services and sound infrastructure.
First-time hotelier Brennan Tomasetti opened the Guild House Hotel on Locust Street in Center City in September 2021. The boutique property features 12 rooms and suites named after former members of the New Century Guild and their housekeeper.
Each room has its own unique layout and charming historic details honoring its namesake — like suffragist Alice Norton’s original piano in the two-bedroom Alice suite .
The Eliza , named for found Eliza Turner, features a king bed tucked into an alcove that is wrapped in woodland-like wallpaper — something the publication compares to “falling asleep in a soothingly gloomy forest.”
The result of all this attention to detail, according to Travel + Leisure , is a modern experience of staying in a Gilded Age manse.
The best new hotel list spans 35 countries and recognizes the most memorable, game-changing hotels of the year. Read the full list — and then book your stay at the Guild House Hotel . You deserve to be pampered!
